TEXT: Ps 35: "Accuse my accusers Yahweh, attack my attackers."
POWERFUL CHRISTIAN : 'God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, come and fulfill your word. Destroy all those who plan evil against me. Anyone who says I'll not make it, I will not marry or takes my picture to any shrine, let your thunder locate them now, eliminate them in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Lord destroy them completely.
ME: My dear you should stop praying like that, that's not how a new testament believer should pray. Jesus told us to pray FOR (not against) our enemies.
POWERFUL CHRISTIAN: You are wrong. It's in the Bible, people like you with carnal minds don't understand spiritual things and warfare.
ME: The problem is the veil. Many Christians are still covered by the veil of Moses. 2Cor 3:14-17 says: "But their minds were closed; indeed, until this very day, the same veil remains over the reading of the Old Testament: it is not lifted, for only in Christ is it done away with. As it is, to this day, whenever Moses is read, their hearts are covered with a veil, and this veil will not be taken away till they turn to the Lord. Now this Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom".
This means that you can't understand the Old Testament without reference to Jesus Christ. Any interpretation of the Old Testament that contradicts what Jesus Christ said or did is wrong. That's why in Mt chapters 5-7 Jesus reinterpreted most of the Mosaic laws by "you have heard how it was said in the past, but I say to you". In the OT women caught in adultery were stoned, Jesus changed that to forgiveness and mercy. In the OT tithe and sin offering were emphasized. In the NT Jesus emphasized generosity, you can be generous by tither or lunching or bazaar or secret donations. No one means attracts more blessings than the other. The words there are "GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER" it doesn't say a tithe giver or bazaar giver or seed sowing giver or donation giver, just be generous by any means you prefer. Also Jesus was very emphatic about giving to the poor, any interpretation of scripture that makes you comfortable with giving to church and men of God without reaching out to the poor, or substituting one for the other means you are still under the veil of Moses. Share the giving accordingly. Use the actions and words of Jesus Christ to interpret the OT. Was it Elijah or Elisha that called down fire to consume some rascals who insulted him, when it was Jesus's turn he called down mercy and forgivenes: "Father forgive them for they know not what they do". When next your favorite man of God comes under serious criticism, don't threaten the critic or aggressor with curses, pray for them rather. "Touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm" is a privilege and not a birthright of prophets. Only God decides when and how to apply it, prophets can only pray to enjoy it. We thank God we are enjoying it by mercy.
So, don't be copying and pasting OT scriptures indiscriminately. If your interpretation of the OT is at variance with the words and actions of Jesus Christ, the veil of Moses is still covering you, you need to turn to the Holy Spirit to remove it, and I can assure you that the Holy Spirit doesn't espouse any understanding of scripture that's not christocentic. Beware of wrong scriptural interpretations, they are flying all over the place. Peace be with you.
